About ESLC

East Side Learning Center (ESLC) unlocks the potential of each child through the foundation of reading by providing one-on-one literacy tutoring to children at no cost to families that are unable to get help elsewhere. Children receive tutoring Monday through Thursday for 30 to 45 minutes during or after school with caring adults. Tutors administer lessons prepared by licensed educators. We monitor the progress of students, train volunteers, and hire certified tutors to ensure quality. Programming is embedded in schools and we are connected to teachers. Our program goals are to be a major force in ensuring that all children have the opportunity to read with pride and joy by 3rd grade, to empower children to be successful in school and society, and to partner with parents in helping their children become the best readers possible. ESLC is a nonprofit 501(c)3 established in 2001 as an educational partnership with the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
