 Mary Hill Interview

Check out the full interview here

ESLC was recently featured on Channel 5 KSTP. The popular news station contacted us after we issued a press release to local media about an urgent need for volunteers. They were shocked to learn that children who do not read at grade level by third grade are four times less likely to graduate high school and that only 36 percent of third graders in Saint Paul read proficiently by third grade. When KSTP heard about our budget cuts from United Way impacting the significant shortage of volunteers this year, they immediately recognized our need. Our executive director, Chris Flippo, was interviewed for more information as well as long time volunteer, Mary Hill, for her take on tutoring:

"Reading is so fundamental. If they can have one-on-one time and get their reading down, it may make a difference in their lives."- Mary

As a result of the newscast, ESLC received a whopping 63 new volunteer applicants in the last two weeks! Words cannot express how grateful we are for all of the new volunteers. We cannot wait to get started connecting these caring adults with children eager to unlock their potential in the foundation of reading!
