UBS Team Spotlight
Corporate tutoring teams are a great way for busy professionals to volunteer as tutors with East Side Learning Center. Sharing the responsibility of tutoring means that a child has a tutor every week, but the burden of time isn’t placed on just one person. UBS Financial Services has been an educational partner for years, consistently sending us dedicated volunteers. Rachel Putratz and Anna Neumann are two of those volunteers, and they were kind enough to share some of their thoughts about tutoring.
Rachel Putratz. Favorite childhood book: The "Little House" books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Rachel is in her third school year as a tutor with ESLC. She started out at John A. Johnson, but for the last two years has been tutoring at Saint Paul Music Academy. She first learned about the program when a representative from ESLC was brought in to UBS to talk about what we do. “I thought it was a great idea and something I wanted to be a part of,” she explains. “I like spending time with the kids,” she says. “It's great so see them progress, even from one week to the next.”
Anna Neumann. Favorite childhood book: The Boxcar Children series.
Anna has been tutoring with ESLC since Fall of 2011. “I thought it would be a great opportunity to help young students learn and to get involved locally”. Anna says her favorite part of tutoring is “getting to know the students and being able to offer them one-on-one attention,” a sentiment many volunteers share. Many volunteers also feel that they learn a lot from their tutoring experience, and Anna is no exception. “ Seeing the kids learn new concepts and challenge themselves is a great reminder to never stop learning and trying new things.”
Thanks to Rachel, Anna, and all the UBS team members for your continued dedication!
